India bags eight medals at Asian Games 2026, including two gold

In the Asian Games 2026, India today delivered a strong medal haul, adding eight medals, including two gold, one silver and five bronze medals in relay, shooting, athletics and boxing. India won the women’s 4x400-metre relay, clocking 3 minutes 29.69 seconds in Nagoya, Japan. India also bagged a bronze in the men’s 4x400-metre relay and another bronze in the mixed 4x100-metre relay.

Earlier, Neeru Dhanda made history by becoming the first Indian shooter to win a gold medal in the women’s trap individual event in Japan. This came after she helped India win a silver medal in the women’s trap team event along with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer.

Gulveer Singh bagged bronze in the men’s 5000-metre final at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya. This was Gulveer’s third medal of the Games after he clinched silver in both the men’s 10,000-metre and 1500-metre events earlier in the competition. Pooja Singh also bagged bronze in the women’s high jump today.

In boxing, Narender Berwal won bronze in the men’s 90kg-plus category after losing to reigning world champion Aibek Oralbay of Kazakhstan by a unanimous 0-5 decision in the semi-final today.

India has moved up to 10th place in the 2026 Asian Games standings, bringing its total medal tally to 53. The current tally includes 6 gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze medals.
