An IndiGo flight travelling from Agartala to Delhi was diverted to Lucknow on Tuesday evening after a smoke warning alarm was triggered in the aircraft’s cargo section, prompting the pilot to seek an emergency landing. The aircraft was carrying 103 passengers and six crew members, with all 109 people on board reported safe.

The flight, identified as IndiGo 6E-6504, was en route to Delhi when the cockpit received the smoke warning while the aircraft was passing through the Lucknow airspace. The pilot immediately contacted Lucknow Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested permission to make an emergency landing.

Emergency Response Activated At Lucknow Airport

Following the pilot's request, ATC gave the aircraft priority to land at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow.

As a precautionary measure, the airport activated its emergency response protocol. Fire tenders, ambulances and rescue teams were deployed near the runway ahead of the aircraft's arrival. Security agencies were also placed on alert.

The IndiGo aircraft landed safely at approximately 6:29 pm. After landing, all passengers and crew members were safely deboarded. The aircraft was subsequently taken for inspection to determine the reason behind the smoke warning.

No Injuries Reported

There were no reports of injuries following the emergency landing. The precautionary diversion was carried out as part of standard aviation safety procedures after the smoke alert was detected.

The exact cause of the warning was not immediately established, and the aircraft was being inspected by the airline's technical team.

The incident comes shortly after a similar aviation alert involving an Air India Express flight. On September 3, a Delhi-bound Air India Express flight was diverted to Lucknow after a smoke alarm was triggered in its cargo section.

The repeated incidents have drawn attention to the emergency response procedures followed when smoke warnings are detected aboard aircraft. In the latest IndiGo incident, the aircraft landed safely and all 109 people on board were accounted for.
