Kashmir Terror Attack: Two Migrant Labourers from Chhattisgarh Killed in South Kashmir

Srinagar | August 1, 2026

Two migrant labourers from Chhattisgarh lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, marking the first targeted attack on migrant workers in the region in nearly 21 months. The victims were working at a brick kiln when unidentified terrorists opened fire on them on Friday evening. One labourer died at the scene, while the second later succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital.

Following the attack, security forces launched a massive search operation in and around the area to track down those responsible. The incident has once again raised serious concerns over the safety of migrant workers employed across Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah strongly condemned the attack and announced an ex gratia compensation of ₹10 lakh for the families of each victim. The administration assured that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders and citizens across the country, with renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect civilians and migrant workers in conflict-prone areas. Authorities have appealed for calm while the investigation continues.
