Mumbai Drug Bust: Suspected Peddler Arrested in Jogeshwari West, Drugs Worth ₹1.26 Crore Seized

The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a suspected drug peddler in Jogeshwari West and seized narcotic substances and other valuables collectively worth around ₹1.26 crore, according to police.

The action was reportedly carried out by the Azad Maidan Unit of the ANC on September 11, following specific information about the alleged storage and sale of narcotic substances in the area.

Raid Conducted in Jogeshwari West

Acting on the information received, ANC officials reportedly conducted a raid at a residence located near Aksa Masjid Road in Jogeshwari West. During the operation, officers allegedly found a substantial quantity of mephedrone, commonly known as MD, along with MDMA tablets.

According to the police, the raid resulted in the recovery of approximately 417 grams of mephedrone, with an estimated value of around ₹1.25 crore.

Officials also allegedly recovered three MDMA tablets weighing approximately 2.04 grams. The tablets were valued at around ₹88,000, according to the reported seizure details.

Cash and Mobile Phone Also Seized

Apart from the suspected narcotics, the ANC reportedly seized ₹25,000 in cash from the premises. An Apple iPhone 15 was also recovered during the operation.

With the narcotic substances, cash and other seized property taken into account, the total value of the seizure was estimated at approximately ₹1.26 crore.

Case Registered Under NDPS Act

Following the seizure, the suspected peddler was arrested and a case was registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The case reportedly includes Section 8(c) read with Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act, which deals with prohibited activities involving narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Investigation Underway

The ANC is now conducting further investigation to determine the source of the seized drugs and their intended distribution network. Investigators are also expected to examine whether the arrested suspect was allegedly working alone or was connected to a wider drug supply chain.

The seizure of more than 400 grams of mephedrone highlights the continuing efforts by Mumbai's Anti-Narcotics Cell to crack down on the illegal trafficking and distribution of synthetic drugs in the city.

Police have not yet disclosed further details about the suspect's alleged suppliers or potential buyers. The investigation remains underway.
