Rahul Gandhi Stages Dharna in Delhi, Demands FIR Over Alleged Pellet Injuries
New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the Parliament Street Police Station on Friday, August 21, demanding an FIR over alleged pellet gun injuries suffered by 19-year-old protester Sahil Lochab during a July 20 protest over the NEET paper leak issue.
Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Sahil Lochab, who alleged that he was hit by pellets during police action. He reportedly suffered injuries to his eyes and abdomen and later underwent surgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
FIR Demand
Sahil and his lawyers had submitted a written complaint to Delhi Police on August 14, followed by further attempts to seek action through email and phone. The Congress alleged that no acknowledgement or diary number was provided.
After approaching the Mandir Marg Police Station, Rahul Gandhi and Sahil went to the Parliament Street Police Station and met the DCP. Rahul Gandhi later staged a dharna outside the station, while Congress workers and supporters gathered at the spot. Police barricaded the area and restricted entry into the station.
Rahul Gandhi said the demand was simply for justice for Sahil and his family and for registration of an FIR.
The allegations regarding pellet gun use and the circumstances surrounding Sahil's injuries remain subject to investigation. The incident has also raised questions over police action during protests and the handling of complaints related to alleged injuries.
