Government Extends RoDTEP Scheme Until December 31, 2026 to Support Indian Exporters

New Delhi

The Government of India has extended the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) Scheme until December 31, 2026, providing continued support to eligible Indian exporters. The extension was notified by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Department of Commerce, through Notification No. 41/2026-27 dated September 30, 2026.

What Is the RoDTEP Scheme?

The RoDTEP scheme helps exporters recover eligible central, state and local duties, taxes and levies borne on exported products that have not been refunded through other mechanisms. These embedded costs can affect the price competitiveness of Indian goods in international markets.

The scheme aims to provide a more level playing field for Indian exporters by remitting eligible unrecovered costs, subject to the applicable product rates, value caps and scheme conditions.

Who Is Eligible?

Under the extension, the scheme remains available for eligible exports made by Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) units, Advance Authorisation (AA) holders, Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units and Export Oriented Units (EOUs).

The existing RoDTEP rates and value caps listed in Appendix 4R and Appendix 4RE, as applicable on September 30, 2026, will remain unchanged during the extended period. All other scheme conditions will continue to apply.

Why Is the Extension Important?

Production, transportation and other unrecovered costs can affect exporters' margins and their ability to compete internationally. Continuing the RoDTEP scheme provides eligible businesses with greater policy certainty when planning shipments and calculating export costs.

Manufacturers and smaller businesses engaged in international trade may benefit where their products and exports qualify under the scheme. However, the extension does not mean that every exporter or every exported product automatically qualifies for a refund.

What Should Exporters Know?

Exporters should check the applicable product classification, RoDTEP rates, value caps and other eligibility conditions before claiming benefits. The relevant schedules and official DGFT notifications should be consulted for the latest requirements.

Conclusion

The extension of the RoDTEP scheme until December 31, 2026, continues an existing export-support measure for eligible Indian exporters. By retaining the existing rates, value caps and other conditions during the extended period, the government aims to provide continuity and support the competitiveness of Indian goods in global markets.
