Scientific Awareness Programme on Snakes Held on Nag Panchami

Jintur Schools Organise Nag Panchami Awareness Programme on Snake Safety

Jintur, August 17: “Not all snakes found in our surroundings are venomous. Lack of awareness and fear often lead to panic, which may sometimes result in serious health complications,” said snake rescuer and wildlife educator Ganesh Sonsale while addressing students at a Nag Panchami awareness programme organised at Dr. Subhashchandra Rathi Balak Vidyamandir and Jijamata Vidyalaya, Jintur.

Sonsale explained the importance of correctly identifying snakes and advised students not to attempt to catch or handle them on their own. He stressed that even non-venomous snakes may bite and that immediate medical attention should be sought after a suspected snakebite.

The programme was attended by school principal M. P. Kadam, senior teacher Vinod Pachpale, snake rescuers Lakhan Phufate and Devanand Nimbalkar, along with teachers and other staff members.

Basav Shri Swami created scientific awareness among the students about snakes, their ecological importance and the need to overcome myths and misconceptions. Kalyani Raje explained the cultural and religious significance associated with Nag Panchami.

As part of the educational demonstration, the snake rescuers introduced students to various snake species, including Kukri snake, Dhaman, Verul, Kavdya, Maniyar, Gawatya, Taskar, Parad, Furase and Ghons. Students observed the snakes under expert supervision and learned about their identification, behaviour and role in nature.

The programme aimed to encourage a scientific approach towards snakes and help students understand the importance of wildlife conservation while maintaining personal safety.

Art teacher Madan More prepared an educational display for the occasion. Teachers and non-teaching staff also contributed to the organisation of the programme.
