Thiruvallur: Shelter Trust Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Spirit and Youth Empowerment
Thiruvallur: Shelter Trust, in association with Manasika Foundation and Manasika Public Charitable Trust, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India on August 15, 2026, at Shelter Home with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm.
The celebration was organized under the theme “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047”, highlighting the importance of youth participation, responsibility, unity and nation-building.
The programme was graced by Dr. Murali A, Director and Head, MIOT Advanced Centre for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases and Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, MIOT International, Chennai, as the Chief Guest.
Independence Day Programme
The programme began with a welcome address by Mrs. Shiloh Annies, followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu presented by Ms. Priyanka and Team and the Pledge of Patriotism led by Ms. Lakshmi.
Dr. Murali A hoisted the National Flag, followed by the National Flag Song presented by Ms. Elsy Mary and Team. The Chief Guest and Guests of Honour were honoured by Mr. A.D. Solomon Raj.
The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem and distribution of sweets among the children and participants.
Children Present Cultural Performances
A vibrant cultural programme was presented by the children of Shelter Home. The children showcased their talents through Parai performance, folk dance, patriotic dance, group performances, speeches and other cultural presentations.
The performances reflected their patriotism, creativity and appreciation of Indian culture and traditions, adding to the spirit of the Independence Day celebration.
Manasika Foundation Volunteers Join the Celebration
Volunteers from Manasika Foundation also actively participated in the celebrations by presenting a special Bharatanatyam performance and organizing fun games for the children.
The activities encouraged friendship, teamwork and joyful interaction between the children and volunteers, creating an engaging atmosphere for everyone present.
Fellowship Lunch and Refreshments
Refreshments were arranged for the participants, followed by a Fellowship Lunch attended by the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, children, staff, volunteers and supporters.
The gathering provided an opportunity for everyone to interact and celebrate the occasion together in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

The celebration concluded on a joyful note, providing the children with a memorable Independence Day experience while reinforcing the values of patriotism, unity, service, responsibility and youth empowerment.
