Three Killed, Multiple Injured as Truck CNG Cylinder Explodes at Delhi Station
NEW DELHI — A sudden, powerful explosion at a CNG filling station in outer Delhi’s Tikri Kalan area left three people dead and several others injured on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 3:37 PM when the CNG gas tank of a commercial truck burst while being refilled. The severe impact tore through the refueling bay, killing three pump employees—identified as Manish (25), Brahmjeet (34), and Sunny (30). Manish succumbed to fatal injuries on the spot, while others succumbed during emergency treatment.
The explosion triggered widespread panic across the surrounding area. Delhi Fire Service promptly dispatched six fire tenders to the scene after receiving an alert. Emergency teams quickly cordoned off the station, controlled secondary safety hazards, and transported the injured—including nearby bystanders and the truck driver—to nearby hospitals.
Delhi Police, along with technical inspection teams from Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the rupture, focusing on cylinder structural integrity and refueling pressure safety protocols.
