The Tripura government collected more than ₹52.04 crore in the last three financial years from traffic law violations, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, informed the Assembly on Monday.

Replying to an un-starred question raised by MLA Nayan Sarkar, Dr. Saha said the state treasury received ₹16,23,13,525 in 2023-24, ₹17,79,57,700 in 2024-25, and ₹18,02,00,600 in 2025-26 from traffic law violations.According to the Chief Minister, the total collection during the three-year period stood at ₹52,04,71,825, showing a steady rise in revenue generated through enforcement of traffic rules.In another reply to a question raised by MLA Sailendra Chandra Nath, Dr. Saha detailed enforcement drives against drunken driving, overloading, over-speeding and other traffic violations during 2025-26 and 2026-27 up to July 31.During 2025-26, authorities submitted 1,276 PRs for drunken driving and realised ₹12.90 lakh in fines. For overloading, 4,547 PRs were submitted and ₹1.29 crore was collected. Enforcement against over-speeding resulted in 2,700 PRsand ₹1.15 crore in fines.

The largest enforcement category was other traffic violations, with 63,592 PRs submitted, 41,637 e-challans generated and ₹16.29 crore realised in penalties.

During 2026-27 up to July 31, enforcement continued across all categories. Drunken driving cases accounted for 398 PRs and ₹4.86 lakh in fines, while 1,701 PRs for overloading resulted in ₹44.08 lakh being collected. Over-speeding enforcement saw 791 PRs and ₹31.18 lakh in fines.

For other traffic violations, 23,965 PRs were submitted and 10,010 e-challans generated, with penalties amounting to ₹5.18 crore.

The government said the combined penalty collection during 2025-26 and 2026-27 up to July 31 stood at ₹24,85,84,380.

The figures indicate that enforcement against traffic violations remains a major focus of the Home Department, with both conventional prosecution reports and e-challan systems being used to penalise motorists.
