A major security scare was reported at the Pandit Nehru Bus Stand in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, after an unattended bag containing 46 gelatin sticks and 50 detonators was discovered on Tuesday, September 15.

The suspicious bag was brought to the attention of authorities after a passenger reportedly noticed that the bag he was carrying was not his own.

The passenger, identified as Asif Ali, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had reportedly travelled to Vijayawada from Narasaraopet.

Passenger Finds Explosive Materials in Replaced Bag

According to the report, Ali reached Vijayawada after travelling by bus and subsequently realised that the bag in his possession had allegedly been exchanged with another passenger's bag.

When he checked the replacement bag, he reportedly found materials that appeared to be explosive substances. He immediately alerted the police at the bus stand outpost.

Following the information, personnel from the Krishna Lanka police station reached the spot and took possession of the bag and its contents.

46 Gelatin Sticks and 50 Detonators Recovered

During the inspection, police reportedly recovered 46 gelatin sticks along with 50 detonators from the bag.

The recovered material is reportedly suspected to have been intended for quarry blasting. However, authorities are investigating how the explosives came to be present at the busy bus terminal and who was actually carrying them.

The recovery of such a large quantity of explosive material at a public transport facility triggered concern among passengers and authorities.

CCTV Footage Being Examined

Police are now examining CCTV footage from the bus stand to establish how the bag reached the terminal and identify the person who may have left or exchanged it.

Investigators are also looking into the circumstances surrounding the alleged bag exchange and are attempting to determine the source and intended destination of the explosive material.

A case has reportedly been registered, while the investigation remains underway.
