In a significant turn of events, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, responsible for the management of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, has witnessed the resignation of its General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra. Their decision to resign was made on what they termed ‘moral grounds’ following allegations of embezzlement concerning donations meant for the temple’s development.
The resignations come in the wake of an FIR filed against eight individuals implicated in the alleged misappropriation of funds. This legal action was initiated after a formal complaint was lodged by the Trust itself. The accused, identified as Ramashankar Yadav (alias Tinnu), Anukalp Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Karunesh Pandey, Manish Yadav, Lavkush Mishra, Ramashankar Mishra, and Subhash Srivastava, have all been apprehended. They face serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which includes theft by a clerk or servant, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy.
Reports suggest that these individuals were involved in the handling of cash and valuable donations collected from devotees at the temple. Allegations indicate that they misused funds collected through various donation boxes situated on the temple premises. This scandal raises grave concerns about the management and oversight of donations that are crucial for the temple’s ongoing construction and maintenance.
In a related development, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been working on the case, and they recently submitted a preliminary report to the Uttar Pradesh government. While the specifics of the report remain undisclosed, insiders have hinted at disturbing findings that could potentially implicate further members of the Trust.
The Ram temple, a historical and cultural symbol for many Hindus, has been a focal point not only of religious devotion but also of political discourse in India. The controversy surrounding the Trust’s management comes at a time when the temple’s construction has been a matter of great pride for many in the Hindu community, making these allegations particularly sensitive. As the investigation unfolds, the Trust’s ability to maintain credibility and trust among devotees is likely to be severely tested.
