The Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has begun disciplinary action against six of its Lok Sabha MPs for their absence during a crucial parliamentary party meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday. The party’s decision comes as a significant move to reinforce discipline within its ranks, especially given the critical nature of unity in the current political landscape.
The MPs facing potential consequences for not adhering to the party whip include Nagesh Aashtikar, Sanjay Deshmukh, Sanjay Jadhav, Sanjay Dina Patil, Omprakash Rajenimbalkar, and Bhausaheb Wakchaure. In a move that underscores the seriousness of the situation, the Shiv Sena has issued show-cause notices to these members, requiring them to respond within seven days or face further disciplinary measures.
Out of the nine Lok Sabha members representing the party, only three were present at the meeting: Arvind Sawant, Anil Desai, and Rajabhau Waze. Additionally, the lone Rajya Sabha member, Sanjay Raut, was also in attendance. Raut, who took the initiative to convene the meeting alongside Sawant, expressed dismay over the absence of six party members, stating that it would be perceived as a direct violation of party directives. His remarks highlight the party’s commitment to maintaining cohesion and discipline, especially during challenging times.
Raut emphasized that the six MPs must explain their absence and provide justifications for their non-attendance. He stated, “The show-cause notices would be issued to them, and they will be asked to explain their conduct and why they were absent from the meeting and why no action should be taken against them.” This statement indicates that the party leadership is not taking the matter lightly and is prepared to escalate the situation if necessary.
In the backdrop of these developments, there is growing speculation regarding potential realignments within the faction. Reports suggest that some members of Uddhav Sena’s parliamentary wing may be considering a shift towards collaborating with the rival faction led by Eknath Shinde. This speculation adds another layer of complexity to the current scenario, highlighting the internal challenges the party faces as it navigates through a politically tumultuous environment.
The Shiv Sena, which has a long history of political activism and presence in Maharashtra, is currently experiencing significant strains within its ranks. The disciplinary action against these six MPs may serve as a pivotal moment for the party as it seeks to bolster unity and regain its footing in the ever-changing political landscape of India.
