At Least 18 Killed in Southern Lebanon Amid Continuing Israel-Hezbollah Clashes

Beirut: At least 18 people were reported killed and several others injured in southern Lebanon amid continuing hostilities between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, according to Lebanese civil defence and health authorities.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the deadliest reported incident occurred in the town of Tayr Debba in the Tyre district, where nine people were killed and seven others injured.

Hezbollah stated that it had targeted Israeli military positions and vehicles in southern Lebanon. Separately, the Israeli military said it had carried out strikes on what it described as Hezbollah infrastructure and militant targets in southern Lebanon. Israeli authorities also reported intercepting a drone allegedly launched toward Israeli forces.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated support for diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing conflict, stating that negotiations remain the preferred path toward restoring stability and sovereignty.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a public message addressing developments in Lebanon. Various claims made by parties to the conflict could not be independently verified.

The latest escalation follows ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border despite previous efforts aimed at reducing hostilities. Reports of cross-border strikes and military operations have continued in recent months.

Authorities and humanitarian organizations continue to monitor the situation, while concerns remain over civilian safety and the broader regional impact of the conflict.
