In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the city of Lucknow, a devastating fire in the Aliganj area has led to the tragic loss of 15 lives. The local police on Monday apprehended four individuals in connection with this calamity, while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the blaze.
The fire broke out in a multi-purpose building that housed a pet shop, a library, and a gaming studio. Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos and panic as flames engulfed the structure, trapping many inside. The arrested suspects have been identified as Ramakrishna Upadhyay, the owner of the pet shop, Virendra Prasad Shukla, the building’s owner, Tushok Krishna Jaiswal, who operated a game development office, and Suresh Kumar Sahu, who had rented the upper portion of the establishment.
In the wake of this tragedy, the police have filed a first information report against six individuals named in the case, along with several unidentified accomplices. While four suspects are now in custody, two more named in the report remain at large, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to locate and apprehend them.
The legal proceedings in this case are being pursued under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically focusing on culpable homicide not amounting to murder and actions that endanger human life, as well as provisions from the Uttar Pradesh Fire Service Act. To ensure a thorough investigation, a Special Investigation Team has been assigned to the case, with a directive to submit their findings within the next week.
Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken immediate action by suspending four officials linked to the incident. Among those suspended are Gaurav Kumar, an executive engineer from the electricity department, and Indira Nagar Fire Service officials, signaling the government’s commitment to accountability in the face of such tragedies.
This incident has raised pressing questions about fire safety regulations and enforcement in the city, particularly in buildings that host multiple businesses. As the investigation unfolds, the families of the victims are left grappling with their grief, while the community demands justice and assurance that such a disaster will not repeat itself in the future.
