Chitrangada, written by Rabindranath Tagore, is a celebrated dance-drama inspired by an episode from the Mahabharata. The narrative revolves around Princess Chitrangada of Manipur, who is raised as a warrior and later encounters Arjuna. The story explores themes of identity, inner strength, love, and self-acceptance as Chitrangada struggles between societal beauty standards and her authentic self. The drama ultimately conveys that true love transcends physical appearance and is rooted in respect and equality.

The performance presented in Naktala brought these themes alive through expressive Odissi dance vocabulary and theatrical storytelling. The production effectively balanced classical tradition with contemporary stage presentation, making it accessible to a diverse audience.

Debamitra Sengupta, known for her contribution to Odissi dance, has been actively involved in performance and training in the field of classical arts. Her work focuses on blending traditional techniques with expressive storytelling, contributing to the promotion of Indian classical dance forms.

The evening concluded with appreciation from attendees, who praised the event for preserving cultural heritage and showcasing classical Indian performing arts on a community platform.
