Atiqa Mir of Srinagar Makes History with F1 Academy Selection, Marks New Era for Indian Women in Motorsport

Atiqa Mir from Srinagar has been selected for the F1 Academy Development Programme. This achievement is being seen as an important milestone for Indian and Asian women in motorsport. However, the claim of her being the “first Indian and first Asian female racer” requires official verification; nevertheless, her selection itself is a significant accomplishment.

Atiqa Mir has demonstrated strong racecraft, consistent performance, and dedication to motorsport despite challenging circumstances. Growing up in Jammu & Kashmir, where access to advanced racing infrastructure is limited, she built her career through karting and single-seater racing with the support of her family and coaches.

Through the F1 Academy programme, she will receive advanced driver coaching, fitness and mental conditioning, technical support, and opportunities to engage with international racing teams. These resources are expected to significantly enhance her development at the global level.

Her selection is expected to encourage greater participation of women in motorsport across India and Asia. It also highlights the ongoing need for improved training facilities, sponsorship pathways, and grassroots motorsport development in the region.

Experts view this as more than an individual achievement—it reflects the growing diversity and inclusion in motorsport. Going forward, attention will be on how Atiqa Mir leverages this opportunity to progress further in international racing.
