An awareness programme on the conservation of the endangered Bengal Florican was organised on May 18 at Japoripathar High School in Bokakhat under the initiative of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in collaboration with the school. The programme was conducted by the Wildlife Institute of India.
The event was attended by the school’s headmaster Dipen Handique, teachers, and students of Classes VII and VIII. During the programme, researcher Saurav Das from the Wildlife Institute of India delivered an illustrated presentation on the Bengal Florican, covering its population, habitat, food habits, and ongoing conservation efforts.
Environmental activist Uttam Saikia also interacted with the students and discussed the importance of conserving the Bengal Florican habitat in the Brahmaputra Valley and Kaziranga region.
The programme included a documentary screening on the species followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with students. Saurav Das informed participants that, following similar awareness programmes in different areas, a survey would also be conducted in the Brahmaputra Valley to study the habitat and population status of the Bengal Florican.
