CBI Interrogates Former Trinamool MLA in Doctor’s Gruesome Rape and Murder Investigation
In a significant development in the shocking rape and murder case of a doctor associated with Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned and interrogated former Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh. The questioning took place on Thursday at the agency’s office located in the New Town area of Kolkata.
The investigation stems from the disturbing allegations surrounding the tragic death of the doctor, which has captured widespread media attention and public outrage. Ratna Debnath, the victim’s mother and a current BJP MLA from Panihati, has publicly called for accountability, specifically targeting Ghosh, alongside Trinamool Congress councillor Sanjib Mukhopadhyay and party worker Somnath Das. She filed a plea in a Sealdah court last month seeking legal action against them.
Reports indicate that the family of the deceased doctor has accused Ghosh and his associates of attempting to expedite the cremation process and obstruct a second post-mortem examination. The family claims that the cremation occurred without the requisite documentation being provided to them, raising serious questions about the integrity of the procedures followed in the aftermath of the doctor’s death.
On the same day of Ghosh’s questioning, CBI officials visited the crematorium in Panihati where the doctor’s last rites were conducted. The actions taken by the CBI have instilled a renewed sense of hope for justice in Debnath, who has expressed her belief that the investigation may finally lead to accountability for those involved. She recounted a harrowing episode from August 10, 2024, when her family was reportedly at the Tala police station awaiting the second autopsy. During that time, they received alarming information that Ghosh, Das, and Mukhopadhyay had allegedly retrieved the body, sidelining the family’s right to a dignified farewell.
The case has not only highlighted the painful realities surrounding crime against women in India but has also ignited a political firestorm, with accusations flying across party lines. Debnath’s relentless pursuit of justice for her daughter has struck a chord with many, as it underscores the urgent need for systemic reform in how such sensitive cases are handled by authorities. As the CBI continues its investigation, the public eagerly awaits further developments in this tragic saga, hoping for justice to prevail.
