In a major operation against suspected drug trafficking, authorities seized narcotic substances estimated to be worth around ₹1.5 crore from a truck at the Churaibari check post on the Assam–Tripura border. Two individuals, including the driver and his helper, have been detained in connection with the case.
Concealment Under Goods
According to officials, the truck was carrying a consignment of watermelons and initially appeared to be a routine transport vehicle. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement personnel conducted a detailed inspection.
During the search, police reportedly recovered a large quantity of codeine-based cough syrup bottles concealed beneath the fruit consignment. Officials stated that such methods are often used to avoid detection during transportation.
Seizure Details
Authorities recovered approximately 95 cartons containing around 14,250 bottles of the restricted cough syrup. The total value of the seized material has been estimated at nearly ₹1.5 crore by officials.
Detention and Investigation
The driver and his assistant were detained at the scene for questioning. According to preliminary statements, they claimed lack of knowledge about the alleged illegal cargo.
Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and initiated further investigation to identify other individuals possibly linked to the case.

Preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle was travelling from Guwahati to Tripura, a route that remains under regular monitoring for illegal trafficking activities.
