On April 13, police arrested a man accused of posing as a government employee and allegedly demanding dowry in connection with a marriage arrangement. The action was taken following a complaint filed by a woman.
According to police, the accused claimed to be an employee of the Food Corporation of India and arranged a marriage with the complainant. The woman’s family reportedly accepted his claims, and both families had agreed to proceed with pre-wedding arrangements, including a pre-wedding photoshoot.
During this period, the accused allegedly called the woman to a room and engaged in inappropriate behavior, as per the complaint. Following the incident, the woman conducted further inquiries into his background and found discrepancies in his identity.
Police stated that the accused’s claim of being a government employee was found to be false. The complaint also alleges that he demanded a dowry of ₹2 crore, which was later negotiated to ₹1.5 crore.
Authorities have reportedly recovered two suspected fake identity cards, a mobile phone, and a car from the accused. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
