Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reiterated India’s support for safe and unimpeded navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting its importance for regional stability as well as global energy and food security.

Following high-level talks with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister Modi condemned recent attacks targeting the UAE and reaffirmed India’s commitment to regional peace and stability.

According to official statements issued after the meeting, the talks resulted in several agreements across energy, defence, infrastructure, technology and trade sectors.

In the energy sector, India’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company signed a strategic collaboration agreement aimed at increasing the UAE’s participation in India’s strategic petroleum reserves to 30 million barrels. A long-term LPG supply agreement was also signed between Indian Oil Corporation and ADNOC.

On defence cooperation, both sides signed a framework for a strategic defence partnership covering industrial collaboration, maritime security, cyber defence and information exchange.

The UAE also announced investments worth five billion US dollars in India. Of this, three billion dollars will be invested by the Emirates New Development Bank into RBL Bank, one billion dollars by the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority into priority infrastructure projects, and one billion dollars by the International Holding Company into Samman Capital.

The two countries further signed agreements to establish a ship repair cluster at Vadinar, develop a maritime sector skill development framework, and create an eight-exaflop supercomputing cluster through collaboration between India’s CDAC and the UAE-based G42.

During the visit, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented a Cerebras chip to Prime Minister Modi. The advanced chip is expected to support India’s AI and high-performance computing initiatives, including the India AI Mission.

The two leaders also welcomed the launch of the MAITRI virtual trade corridor, a digital framework linking customs and port authorities of both countries to streamline cargo movement, reduce logistics costs and improve transit efficiency.
