Massive financial fraud in the name of Cafe Kudumbashree Premium Restaurant in Vagamon, Idukki.

A complaint has been filed alleging that a fraud syndicate cheated a young man from Ayyappancoil out of his property and money, worth lakhs of rupees, by promising him a partnership in a ‘Cafe Kudumbashree Premium Restaurant’ unit in Vagamon. The victims, Jayan from Kannamkara, Ayyappancoil, reportedly lost 15 cents of land and significant funds through the deception of Gokul Prakash, Prakash Rajappan, and Prabha Prakash (all from the Kaniyamparambil family).

The Modus Operandi
The fraudsters approached Jayan claiming that a prominent political leader (from the ruling party) in Idukki had secured this Kudumbashree contract for them. They convinced him that:

All government offices in the district operate under this leader’s influence.

Bribes had already been paid to the leader and Kudumbashree staff to “fix” everything.

The project was awarded to them secretly without the mandatory public advertisements to keep it “under the radar.”

The Execution of the Scam
After months of building a friendship and conducting “business discussions,” the group took Jayan before Kudumbashree Mission officials and the Collector to validate the project’s legitimacy. They promised him a 50% partnership in the business.

To secure the “first installment” of capital, they tricked the young man into transferring his land to Gokul’s name, claiming it was necessary to obtain a bank loan. Using this land as collateral at Mahindra Home Finance, the fraudsters took out a “plot purchase loan.” Furthermore, they made Jayan spend lakhs of rupees on construction activities. Once the setup was complete, the group unilaterally declared that they had never promised him a partnership.

Current Situation
When Jayan requested his property back in lieu of the partnership, the fraudsters resorted to lame excuses, threats, and open challenges. Jayan and his family have now filed complaints with the Police and the Kudumbashree Mission, hoping to recover their land.

Public and Social Impact
There is a growing public demand for stringent action against those who misused the reputation of Kudumbashree, a model organization, to commit such a massive fraud. Social organizations and experts have noted that:

Targeting new entrepreneurs creates fear among potential investors, which could hinder the state’s business growth and job opportunities.

Social observers warn that if the legal system fails to impose fitting punishments, such fraudulent activities are likely to increase.
