NEET 2026 Undergrad Exam Annulled Amidst Paper Leak Scandal

NEET 2026 Undergrad Exam Annulled Amidst Paper Leak Scandal

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the cancellation of the 2026 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), following serious allegations of a paper leak. This decision follows the examination held on May 3, which serves as the gateway for aspiring medical students in India to secure their places in undergraduate medical programs.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NTA revealed that the test would be rescheduled, with new dates to be communicated soon. The cancellation comes in the wake of investigations by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG), which is probing claims that a so-called ‘guess paper’ containing nearly 410 questions had circulated prior to the exam. Shockingly, around 120 of the questions in this guess paper were reportedly identical to those on the actual test, particularly in the chemistry section, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

Vishal Bansal, Additional Director General of the Rajasthan Police’s Special Operations Group, confirmed the developments while discussing the ongoing investigation with The Economic Times. As part of their inquiry, law enforcement has detained over 45 individuals in connection with the case, indicating the scale of the alleged malpractice. This situation has left students and parents in disarray, as the NEET exam is a critical determinant for entry into medical colleges across the nation.

The NTA had previously asserted that stringent security protocols were in place during the conduct of the NEET-UG examination on May 3, reassuring candidates and their families of the test’s credibility. However, the agency’s latest announcement highlights that preliminary investigations have revealed inconsistencies that could compromise the validity of the exam results. As such, the NTA stated that allowing the examination’s integrity to stand was not permissible.

This incident has sparked widespread outrage among students and education advocates, who are calling for greater transparency and stricter measures to prevent malpractices in future examinations. The NEET, a crucial stepping stone for millions of medical aspirants across India, must be conducted with utmost integrity to ensure that deserving candidates are given fair opportunities to pursue their dreams in healthcare. As the investigation unfolds, all eyes will be on the NTA’s follow-up actions to restore trust in the examination system.
