Telangana CM Raises Concern Over Voter Deletion in SIR Exercise
Hyderabad, August 20, 2026:
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has expressed serious concern over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, warning that a significant number of voters could lose their voting rights if the process is not conducted transparently and accurately.
According to information shared by the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana has a total of 3,38,26,448 registered voters. Of these, enumeration forms related to nearly 73 lakh voters have reportedly been marked as "uncollectable" and remain undigitised. This accounts for approximately 21% to 21.7% of the electorate, raising concerns about the possible exclusion of genuine voters from the electoral rolls.
Speaking at the Minorities Excellence Summit in Hyderabad and later during a TPCC video conference, the Chief Minister alleged that there was a political attempt to remove a large number of voters from the voter lists, particularly in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. He claimed that nearly 60 to 70 lakh voters could be affected if proper verification is not carried out.
Revanth Reddy directed Congress leaders and party workers to closely monitor the voter verification process. He instructed district in-charge ministers and Assembly constituency leaders to conduct reviews and identify issues at the ground level to ensure that no eligible voter is left out.
The Chief Minister also urged party workers to undertake door-to-door verification of voter lists and help citizens complete the necessary documentation. Emphasising the importance of democratic participation, he stated that every vote is valuable and that special attention should be given to protecting the voting rights of minorities, women, Dalits, and migrant workers.
The issue has sparked political debate in Telangana, with opposition parties rejecting the allegations, while the ruling Congress has called for greater transparency in the electoral revision process.
