According to two professionals who witnessed the events unfold from their office balcony, the atmosphere rapidly escalated when police arrived to disperse the crowd. “It was lunchtime, and I could see everything from my office. The police came and started violently hitting people,” one eyewitness recounted, emphasizing the distressing nature of the scene.

The second observer noted that most of those targeted in the police action were women workers. One woman, who was reportedly struck during the incident, boldly confronted the police, asserting her rights and demanding that female officers be called to handle the situation. Despite her passionate pleas, the police continued their aggressive tactics. “She shouted, ‘Keep beating me. Let’s see how much you can manage,'” the eyewitness recalled, underscoring the courage displayed by the protestors amidst the brutality.

As the confrontation drew on, the police eventually withdrew without making any arrests, leaving behind a tense but determined group of workers. However, in a sweeping move two days later, authorities claimed to have arrested 396 individuals, citing accusations of rioting and unlawful assembly. This drastic measure has further fueled public outrage and distrust toward the police’s handling of the situation.

Adding to the controversy, a video emerged on social media platforms, including Instagram and X, purportedly depicting the police assaulting women during the protest. This footage caught the attention of various political groups, including the Uttar Pradesh Congress, which condemned the police actions and called for accountability. The video has since gone viral, amplifying the demands for justice and transparency in how the authorities dealt with the peaceful protestors.
