Garbage Clean-up Drive at Panbari Animal Corridor in Kaziranga by NSS Volunteers of JDSG College, Bokakhat.
The animal corridors along National Highway 715 at the southern boundary of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve are extremely important for the park’s wildlife. Among them, the Panbari corridor in the Bokakhat Range area is particularly sensitive and vital. Through this corridor, animals migrate between Kaziranga National Park and Panbari Reserved Forest.
During floods, the Panbari corridor provides safe passage for wildlife. To ensure smooth and secure movement, the National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of JDSG College, Bokakhat, carried out a garbage clean-up drive on May 11.
It is noteworthy that garbage thrown by vehicles traveling along the highway often obstructs animal movement and poses a threat to their lives. To address this, students of the college regularly engage in voluntary service to keep the corridor free of waste.
On May 11, a team of 15 NSS volunteers collected and removed garbage dumped by vehicles in the corridor. During this drive, the volunteers gathered more than 105 kilograms of waste from the Panbari corridor.
The team was led by college Vice Principal Prashanta Saikia and Commerce Department Professor Motiram Das. Environmental activist Uttam Saikia, Bokakhat Forest Range Officer Himanshu Gogoi, and Panbari forest staff also extended their support.
Range Officer Himanshu Gogoi expressed gratitude to the NSS volunteers for their efforts in protecting wildlife through this clean-up drive. It is worth mentioning that before the flood season last year, the NSS unit of JDSG College also carried out similar clean-up activities in the Panbari corridor, assisting both the Forest Department and wildlife.
