Ukhrul, April 24:
Tension has escalated in parts of Manipur after reports emerged that five alleged militants were killed during a retaliatory operation near the Kamjong border.
According to a statement released by the NSCN GPRN’s Naga Army, the operation was carried out following the April 18 incident near T.M. Kasom village in Ukhrul district, where two individuals were killed.
The group alleged that armed individuals had been camping near the international border and were planning attacks targeting civilians. Acting on this intelligence, the Naga Army claimed it launched a retaliatory strike, resulting in the deaths of five suspected militants and the seizure of weapons.
In the aftermath, several nearby villages — including Sinakeithei, Thoyee, Sharkaphung, and areas around Litan — have reportedly witnessed sporadic firing over the past few days. The incidents have created panic among residents, with many expressing concern over their safety.
Despite these claims, there has been no independent verification or official confirmation from government or security agencies regarding the reported casualties or the recovery of weapons.
Security remains tense in the region, and authorities are yet to release a detailed statement. Residents continue to remain on edge as uncertainty prevails along the border areas.
