Foreign Tourist Allegedly Drugged, Sexually Assaulted at Karnataka Homestay; Two Arrested

Mysuru, April 24:
A disturbing incident has surfaced from Karnataka, where a foreign tourist was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted at a homestay in the Kodagu district.
According to police reports, the victim — a US national — was staying at a private homestay in Kutta village when she was allegedly served a drink laced with intoxicating substances. Soon after consuming the beverage, she reportedly became incapacitated and was sexually assaulted.
In a shocking detail, the accused allegedly cut off the Wi-Fi connection at the property, preventing the victim from contacting anyone or seeking immediate help. This reportedly left her isolated for several days.
The situation came to light after the victim managed to reach out to the authorities through the US Embassy, prompting swift police action. Following the complaint, two individuals — including the homestay owner and a staff member — were arrested in connection with the case.
Investigators revealed that the victim stated she was conscious during the assault but unable to move, raising strong suspicion of the use of sedatives or other incapacitating substances.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody while forensic analysis and evidence collection continue.
The incident has triggered serious concerns over the safety of tourists, particularly in private accommodations, and has led to calls for stricter regulations and monitoring of homestays across the state.
