Dimapur, April 24:
In a tragic incident, a jawan of the Nagaland Armed Police lost his life in a suspected train run-over accident while on election duty in West Bengal.
The deceased has been identified as Imlikumzuk, a personnel of the 11th Indian Reserve Battalion. According to sources, the incident occurred on April 21 when the jawan reportedly stepped out around 3:30 pm to have tea ahead of a scheduled 4:00 pm roll call.
When he failed to return, fellow personnel grew concerned and initiated a search operation after repeated attempts to contact him went unanswered. His mobile phone and wallet were later found in his room, deepening concerns among his colleagues.
During the search, local residents reportedly informed the team that a Naga jawan had been killed on a nearby railway track in a suspected run-over incident.
Officials have confirmed that the body is being transported to Dimapur and will subsequently be taken to his native place in Changtongya for final rites.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the force, especially as the jawan was on official election duty at the time of his death.
Authorities are expected to conduct further inquiry to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
