Telangana Police Investigating Case Involving Bandi Bhagirath

Hyderabad, May 2026: Telangana police are investigating a case registered against Bandi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar, following allegations made in a complaint filed under provisions related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to police sources and media reports, the case was registered after a complaint was submitted alleging misconduct involving a minor girl. Officials stated that relevant sections under the POCSO Act were added based on the complaint and the age of the complainant.

Police authorities reportedly initiated an investigation, including recording statements, collecting digital evidence, and examining related locations connected to the allegations. Officials also confirmed that procedural legal steps were being followed as part of the ongoing probe.

The matter later reached the Telangana High Court in connection with legal proceedings related to anticipatory bail petitions. Meanwhile, Hyderabad police continued the investigation and carried out further questioning related to the case.

Reports stated that Bhagirath was later taken into custody and produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Further legal proceedings in the matter are expected to continue.

The case has generated political reactions in Telangana, with opposition leaders demanding a fair and transparent investigation. Political parties have also called for due legal process and accountability.

Responding publicly to the controversy, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar stated that the law should take its course and said that his family would cooperate with the investigation. Bhagirath has denied the allegations against him.

Police officials have stated that the investigation remains ongoing and that further evidence and forensic findings may be submitted before the court as the case progresses.

Authorities have not announced any final conclusions, and the matter remains under judicial and investigative review.
