Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Complex Declared Temple by Madhya Pradesh High Court

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has held that the religious character of the disputed Bhojshala-Kamal Maula complex in Dhar is that of Bhojshala, a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.

Allowing writ petitions filed by Hindu Front for Justice and others, a division bench comprising Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla and Justice Alok Awasthi observed that historical records and available material indicated the existence of a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati at the site.

According to the court observations, the historical literature associated the place with Raja Bhoj and described it as a centre of Sanskrit learning. The bench also noted the continuity of Hindu worship at the site, though regulated over time.

In its observations, the court stated that the religious character of the area would be treated as Bhojshala with a temple of Goddess Vagdevi.

The matter has remained the subject of legal and historical dispute for several years. The verdict follows arguments based on archaeological findings, historical references and submissions made by different parties before the court.

Further legal and administrative steps regarding the implementation of the order are expected to be decided in accordance with law.

Certain details in the report are based on information published by various news sources and court-related reports.
