Book Talk Marks World Book Day at Maharaja Srischandra College

Kolkata, April 24: To celebrate World Book Day 2026, the Central Library and IQAC of Maharaja Srischandra College organised a virtual Book Talk on April 23 at 6 p.m. The programme was attended by students of the 4th and 6th semesters along with several other participants through Google Meet, following the Election protocol.
The event featured distinguished speakers from different departments of the college. Prof. Kuntal Mitra, eminent author and Associate Professor of the Department of Bengali, Dr Tilok Naskar, Assistant Professor of the Department of English and active member as well as researcher of the Shakespeare Society of Eastern India, and Dr Kartik Chowdhury, noted author in Dalit Sahitya and Assistant Professor of the Department of Hindi, shared their valuable insights during the session.
The speakers highlighted the importance of books in shaping minds, preserving culture, and encouraging critical thinking among students. They also stressed the need to develop reading habits in the digital age.
Librarian Dr Ashim Kumar Das and Dr Avijit Chakraborty announced a long-term plan to involve more learned colleagues of Maharaja Srischandra College in future Book Talk programmes. They also proposed the formation of a Book Club in the college to promote literary discussions and reading culture among students.
The programme was appreciated by participants and marked a meaningful observance of World Book Day.
