‘Social Media Does Not Decide the Chief Minister’: Senior Congress Leaders Urge Restraint
Kochi: Senior Congress leaders have expressed concern over ongoing discussions on social media regarding the selection of the next Chief Minister, urging party workers and supporters to avoid premature debates.
Member of Parliament Benny Behanan stated during a media interaction that such discussions are “painful” and may affect the party’s internal discipline. He emphasized that decisions regarding leadership are made by the party’s official leadership and not through online platforms. He also advised United Democratic Front (UDF) workers to exercise restraint and maintain focus on organizational priorities.
Behanan further noted that similar discussions are not being observed in other political parties and reiterated that the Congress leadership has not endorsed any such narratives circulating on social media. He also referred to earlier appeals made by senior leaders, including K.C. Joseph, urging caution in public discourse.
Echoing similar views, senior leader K. Muraleedharan said that leadership decisions are taken by the party High Command and not influenced by discussions on messaging platforms or social media. He highlighted that internal matters should be addressed within party forums to avoid confusion among party members and supporters.
Muraleedharan also referred to recent social media activity by a party candidate, stating that internal discussions should remain within organizational channels rather than being shared publicly, as it may lead to misunderstandings.
The leaders collectively called for unity and discipline within the party, urging members to await official decisions from the leadership and avoid speculation in the public domain.
