Haridwar: The condition of service roads in several parts of Haridwar has emerged as a concern for local residents and daily commuters during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. Residents claim that despite the pilgrimage season being underway for over 20 days, damaged road stretches continue to cause inconvenience, traffic congestion, and travel difficulties.
According to local residents, potholes, broken road sections, dust, and waterlogging at some locations have made commuting difficult. School students, office-goers, shopkeepers, and pilgrims travelling through the city are reportedly facing delays, especially during peak traffic hours.
Commuters have also expressed concern over road safety, particularly for two-wheeler riders and elderly pedestrians navigating uneven road surfaces. Increased vehicular movement linked to the Char Dham Yatra is said to be adding pressure to already congested stretches in some areas.
Local traders have stated that poor road conditions may be affecting business activity, as visitors and commuters often avoid damaged or heavily congested areas.
Haridwar serves as an important transit point for pilgrims travelling to the Char Dham shrines, making traffic management and road maintenance especially significant during the yatra season. Residents have urged the concerned departments to take up repair work, improve drainage systems, and ensure regular monitoring of road conditions to ease public inconvenience.
Authorities’ response on the matter was not immediately available.
