Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan Appointed Next Chief of Indian Navy

New Delhi, May 9: The Central Government has appointed Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan as the next Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Indian Navy. He will succeed Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, who is scheduled to retire on May 31, 2026. Vice Admiral Swaminathan is expected to assume charge from the same date. The appointment was announced by the Government of India and the Ministry of Defence.

Currently serving as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command based in Mumbai, Vice Admiral Swaminathan brings nearly four decades of experience in naval operations and strategic leadership.

Commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1987, he specializes in Communication and Electronic Warfare and has held several important operational and administrative appointments during his service. He has previously served in senior leadership roles, including Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, before taking charge of the Western Naval Command.

Vice Admiral Swaminathan received his military education from the National Defence Academy (Khadakwasla), the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham, United Kingdom, the College of Naval Warfare in Karanja, and the United States Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

His appointment comes at a significant time for the Indian Navy as maritime security and strategic preparedness continue to remain key priorities.
