Suvendu Adhikari Sworn In as West Bengal Chief Minister

Kolkata, May 9: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on Saturday, marking a major political shift in the state after the Bharatiya Janata Party formed its first government in West Bengal. Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office during a ceremony held at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states attended the event.

Suvendu Adhikari’s appointment follows the BJP’s victory in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, ending the Trinamool Congress-led government that had been in power since 2011. Adhikari was earlier elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party before taking oath as Chief Minister.

A prominent political leader from West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari has held influence in several rural districts of the state. He began his political career through student politics and was previously associated with the Congress party before joining the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee. Later, he joined the BJP and emerged as one of the party’s key leaders in West Bengal politics.

In recent elections, Adhikari played a significant role in strengthening the BJP’s presence in the state and contested against Mamata Banerjee in high-profile political battles. Political observers view his elevation as an important development in West Bengal’s changing political landscape.
