Hyderabad, June 16, 2026: The family of a 40-year-old Hyderabad resident consented to organ donation after he was declared brain dead, enabling six patients to receive life-saving transplants under the Jeevandan organ donation programme.
According to officials, Surya Ravi Kumar, a team leader at a multimedia company, was admitted to a private hospital on June 10 after experiencing a serious medical emergency. Despite treatment, his condition deteriorated and he was declared brain dead on June 15.
Following medical counselling, his family agreed to donate his organs through the Jeevandan initiative. His wife, Sura Prabandha, provided consent for the donation.
Hospital authorities stated that the donor’s kidneys, liver, lungs and corneas were retrieved and allocated to patients awaiting transplantation.
Officials said the donation marks the 100th organ donation recorded under the Jeevandan programme in 2026. According to programme data, the donations made this year have benefited hundreds of transplant recipients across the state.
Representatives of the initiative highlighted the importance of organ donation awareness and acknowledged the family’s decision during a difficult time.
Health officials continue to encourage public awareness regarding organ donation and the procedures related to brain-death certification and transplantation.
