Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth Set to Take Charge as Next Chief of Indian Army

In a significant development for the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth has been appointed as the next Army chief by the Union government. This announcement was made on Saturday, with General Seth set to officially take over command on June 30, following the retirement of the current chief, General Upendra Dwivedi.

Lieutenant General Seth, who is currently serving as the vice chief of the Army, brings with him a wealth of experience and a distinguished record of service. A graduate of the prestigious National Defence Academy in Pune, he was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in 1986. Over the years, he has held numerous critical positions and has been instrumental in various operations, showcasing exemplary leadership and strategic insight.

Throughout his career, General Seth has commanded an armoured brigade in the challenging western theatre, as well as a counter-insurgency force in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also led the Sudarshan Chakra Corps, one of the Army’s premier strike formations. His leadership has been pivotal in enhancing operational readiness and effectiveness in diverse environments.

In addition to his commanding roles, Seth has served as the general officer commanding-in-chief of both the Army’s South Western Command and Southern Command. His breadth of experience across different commands has prepared him well for the top role in the Indian Army.

General Seth is not only recognized for his operational prowess but also for his gallantry and dedication to service. He is a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, the highest peacetime honour in the Indian armed forces, awarded for exceptional service, and the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, which he received in January this year for distinguished service during wartime or conflict.

As he prepares to take over the reins, expectations are high for General Seth to steer the Indian Army through contemporary challenges and enhance its operational capabilities. His appointment comes at a crucial time, as the military landscape in the region becomes increasingly complex, requiring adept leadership and strategic foresight.
