Baharampur, April 16: Actor-turned-politician and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty fell ill on Thursday while participating in a roadshow in Baharampur, Murshidabad, briefly disrupting the party’s campaign programme.
The roadshow began from Gandhi Colony near the Circuit House and witnessed significant participation from party workers and supporters. However, after the procession crossed the New Market area, Chakraborty reportedly felt unwell, causing concern among leaders and attendees present at the venue.
According to BJP district leaders, he was promptly attended to and moved away from the rally to receive medical attention and rest.
Despite his absence, the campaign programme continued as scheduled. BJP candidate Subrata Mitra, along with district president Malay Mahajan and other leaders, carried forward the roadshow, which concluded at Khagra crossing.
Party sources later confirmed that Chakraborty’s condition was stable, providing reassurance to supporters.
The roadshow witnessed a large turnout of supporters, with party flags and slogans creating a charged political atmosphere throughout the route. Security arrangements were also in place to manage the crowd and ensure smooth movement of the procession.
Party sources indicated that as a precautionary measure, medical assistance was immediately arranged on-site, and leaders ensured that he received timely care before being moved to a safer location.
