Nihang Jatha Returns After Late-Night Talks; Situation Remains Under Control in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: A day of heightened security at the Uttarakhand–Himachal Pradesh border concluded peacefully after a Nihang Sikh jatha, which had travelled towards Uttarakhand in connection with the Nagrasu Gurudwara-related dispute, returned following late-night discussions with the administration.

According to officials, the Nihang group reached the Kulhal border from Paonta Sahib, where heavy police deployment and barricades had been put in place as a precautionary measure. During the protest, some members of the group reportedly crossed the barricaded area, prompting security personnel to strengthen monitoring in the region.

Officials stated that the Uttarakhand Police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) maintained security while continuing discussions with representatives of the group.

The Nihang representatives later reached Race Course Gurudwara in Dehradun, where District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal held multiple rounds of talks.

Following the discussions, the Nihang jatha departed from Dehradun at around 2:30 a.m. and returned towards Paonta Sahib under police escort. Authorities said security personnel accompanied the convoy to the Uttarakhand–Himachal Pradesh border to ensure a peaceful conclusion.

Officials said the developments are linked to the ongoing investigation into the June 16 Karnaprayag incident. Security has been maintained across the region, and authorities stated that they continue to monitor the situation while taking necessary measures to maintain law and order.
