Hyderabad, April 2026:
Public transport services in Telangana may face disruption as employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) have announced an indefinite strike starting from midnight, following inconclusive discussions with a government-appointed committee.
Leaders of the RTC workers’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) stated that talks held with the panel did not result in any agreement on their pending demands. According to union representatives, a strike notice had been submitted several weeks ago, and discussions were held recently to address the issues.
During the meeting, JAC leaders reiterated their key demands, which include the merger of RTC with the state government, conduct of union elections, and continuation of bus operations exclusively under the corporation.
Union leaders expressed concern over the delay in addressing these issues and stated that their demands have been pending for a considerable period. They also indicated dissatisfaction with the outcome of the discussions.
With the strike expected to begin at midnight, RTC bus services across the state could be affected, potentially causing inconvenience to daily commuters.
There has been no detailed official response yet regarding further negotiations. Authorities are expected to review the situation and explore possible measures to minimise disruption to public transport services.
