West Bengal Assembly Election 2026 Sees High Voter Turnout; Results Awaited

Kolkata, April 30, 2026:

Voting for the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections concluded across all 294 constituencies, with a high level of voter participation reported during the two polling phases held on April 23 and April 29.

According to preliminary information, several constituencies recorded turnout figures reaching close to 90 percent or more, indicating strong voter engagement across both urban and rural areas. Final turnout figures are expected to be confirmed by the Election Commission of India.

The election is primarily being contested between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The outcome will determine whether the incumbent government secures another term or if there is a change in leadership.

Constituencies such as Nandigram and Bhabanipur remained in focus due to their political significance. Polling stations in multiple districts reported steady queues of voters from early morning hours.

Smaller parties and alliances, including the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), also contested in select constituencies, which may influence voting patterns in certain areas.

To ensure smooth conduct of polling, the Election Commission implemented administrative measures, including the deployment of security personnel in sensitive regions and action against officials in cases of reported irregularities.

Exit polls released after the conclusion of voting indicate a closely contested outcome, though officials have emphasized that final results will only be known after the official counting scheduled for May 4, 2026.
