CBI Director Praveen Sood’s Tenure Extended

New Delhi, May 14, IPU Media Update News : The tenure of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Praveen Sood has been extended until May 2027. His term was originally scheduled to conclude on May 24, 2026. The Central Government on Wednesday approved a one-year extension to his tenure.

According to official orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the extension based on the recommendations of the selection committee.

Praveen Sood, an IPS officer of the 1986 batch from the Karnataka cadre, will now continue to head the investigative agency for another year. As per official sources, the selection committee meeting was attended by members of the high-level panel, including the representative of the judiciary.

The extension decision comes shortly after a meeting of the high-level selection committee, during which Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reportedly submitted a note of dissent regarding the appointment process.
