A woman identified as Deepika Nagar died after reportedly falling from the third floor of her matrimonial home in the Jalpura area of Greater Noida, prompting police investigation following allegations of dowry harassment made by her family.
According to police and family members, Deepika had been married for around one and a half years. The incident reportedly took place late at night under the jurisdiction of the Ecotech-III police station.
Family members alleged that she had been facing mental and physical harassment linked to dowry demands after marriage. They claimed that cash, jewellery, and other items had already been provided during the wedding, but additional demands were allegedly made later.
Relatives further alleged that Deepika had informed them about repeated disputes and pressure from her husband’s family. The family has questioned initial suggestions that the incident may have been a suicide and has demanded a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police officials said the body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have also confirmed that statements from family members and other individuals connected to the case are being recorded as part of the investigation.
Reports indicate that legal proceedings have been initiated based on the complaint submitted by the victim’s family. Police said all aspects of the case, including allegations of dowry harassment and domestic abuse, are being examined.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns surrounding dowry-related harassment and crimes against women in India. Legal experts and social observers continue to stress the importance of timely reporting of domestic abuse and proper enforcement of existing laws.
Police stated that further action will depend on evidence collected during the investigation and the findings of the post-mortem report.
