Guwahati Artist Receives Court Summons; Repainted Zubeen Garg Mural Draws Public Attention

Guwahati, Assam: Local artist Marshell Baruah has drawn public attention after repainting a mural of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg in Guwahati’s Ganeshguri area.

According to local reports, the original mural was removed, following which Baruah recreated the portrait at the location. The artwork has attracted discussion among residents, artists and admirers of the singer.

Separately, Baruah has reportedly received a court summons in connection with an earlier case related to protest artwork concerning tree-cutting issues in the Bharalu area. The summons is not reported to be directly linked to the repainting of the Zubeen Garg mural.

The developments have generated discussion among artists, cultural observers and local residents regarding public art, cultural expression and the use of public spaces.

No official finding has been made against the artist in the matter, and the legal proceedings remain subject to due process.
