Hyderabad: The traditional 10th Muharram (Youm-e-Ashura) procession was observed peacefully across Hyderabad’s Old City, with thousands of devotees participating in the annual Bibi Ka Alam procession to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
The procession commenced around noon from the historic Bibi-ka-Alawa in Dabeerpura. Following long-standing tradition, the sacred Alam (religious standard) was carried atop a decorated elephant along its customary route through key landmarks, including Charminar, Ashoorkhana Khadam-e-Rasool, Peeli Gate (Purani Haveli), before concluding at Masjid-e-Ilahi in Chaderghat.
According to officials, thousands of mourners from various Anjumans participated in the procession, performing traditional mourning rituals and reciting elegies commemorating the events of Karbala.
State officials, community representatives, and members of the former Hyderabad royal family participated in customary ceremonial offerings at designated locations along the route.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the event, Hyderabad City Police deployed around 3,000 personnel from the Traffic, Law & Order, and Task Force wings. Traffic diversions were implemented at key junctions, including Yakutpura, Etebar Chowk, and Nayapool, while security arrangements remained in place throughout the procession.
The procession concluded peacefully in the evening at Masjid-e-Ilahi, marking the annual observance of Youm-e-Ashura in Hyderabad without any major reported incidents.
