The United States has proposed a significant increase in defence spending, with officials presenting a budget of approximately $1.5 trillion amid heightened tensions with Iran.

Speaking before lawmakers, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the proposed budget reflects current security priorities and focuses on strengthening military preparedness. He made the remarks during a hearing with the Armed Services Committee, where officials reviewed defence requirements and expenditure plans.

According to Pentagon officials, the increased allocation is intended to address both immediate operational needs and long-term readiness. During the hearing, finance representatives indicated that recent military activities have led to increased expenditure, particularly on munitions and logistics, though detailed figures were discussed as part of internal assessments.

Senior military leadership also highlighted the importance of consistent funding. General Dan Caine stated that sustained and predictable investment is essential for maintaining operational effectiveness in a changing global security environment.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran are ongoing. Officials have indicated that discussions are continuing, though the situation remains sensitive.

The proposed budget will now be reviewed by Congress as part of the broader legislative process.
