New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has granted regular bail to a woman accused in a 2023 double murder case related to the deaths of her parents-in-law, Radhey Shyam and Beena Rani. The court observed that the trial is likely to take considerable time and that continued incarceration of the accused as an undertrial for more than three years was not justified.
Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani, while granting bail, noted that only 16 out of the 57 prosecution witnesses had been examined so far, indicating that the trial may take a substantial amount of time to conclude. The court further observed that, at this stage, there appeared to be no substantial material beyond the accused’s disclosure statement directly linking her to the alleged crime.
According to court proceedings, the case pertains to an FIR registered at Gokul Puri Police Station under charges including murder, robbery and criminal conspiracy. The prosecution has alleged that the woman conspired with co-accused Viraj alias Vikas and Ashish Bhargav and allegedly facilitated their entry into the house through a back door.
During the hearing, defence counsel Deepanshu Choithani and Madhav Nagpal reportedly highlighted alleged contradictions in the chargesheet and questioned the evidentiary value of call records, CCTV footage and claims regarding relationships among the accused persons.
Representing the prosecution, Additional Public Prosecutor Shoaib Haider opposed the bail plea and argued that the accused played a key role in the alleged conspiracy, citing call detail records and alleged meetings connected to the case.
The matter remains under trial, and the court’s order pertains only to the grant of bail, not to a final determination of guilt or innocence.
